Kryptos

Kryptos is an online cryptic treasure hunt competition held by MEC, Kochi as a part of Excel – it’s annual tech fest. One of the most eagerly awaited event of Excel X – the tenth edition of Excel, the game involves a series of levels, each of which has to be broken in order to progress to the next one. The organizers wish to dedicate Kryptos to every person out there who has felt that surge of adrenaline upon reading Dan Brown books, to everyone who has wished he/she were the one who had discovered King Tut’s tomb instead of that Sir. Damn Lucky Carter. Being in the club ourselves, we have tried our best to make Kryptos as intriguing as possible for all you guys. The levels are framed in such a way that there’s something for everyone. A lot of the levels have misleadingly simple solutions. The tools you’ll need for Kryptos are a cup of coffee, your brain and perseverance. Usually all it takes is some presence of mind, some amount of Wiking/Googling and a pinch of luck and voila, you’re through! The competition will go on till the 10th of December . Be sure to put in your feedbacks. We accept all species of criticism. Do use the forum for hints.

1.Anybody who hasn’t passed graduation and is in a college/school, can play (KG to UG, we call it). Age/sex/religion/caste/creed/nationality/orientation no bar.
2. Answers are to be entered IN lower CASE, WITHOUTSPACES. Eg. If the answer is Absolute Garbage then your entry should be ‘absolutegarbage’
3. We suggest you enter FULL NAMES. Eg. If the answer is Chandler Muriel Bing, then your entry should be ‘chandlermurielbing’.
4. Use the forum in case you’re stuck. -Please don’t post answers in the forum. It spoils the fun for everyone. -Try to refrain from using objectionable language wherever possible.
5. DO NOT try to contact the moderator(s) in any way other than through the forum. It will not help you in anyway. Kryptos shall be completely transparent.
6. Hints shall be provided by the mods in the forum in the allocated threads at regular intervals.
7. Do whatever it takes to get to the next level. Change the URL, click on random places, enter stuff in various boxes, downloading pics and fiddling around, blackmagic etc.
8. We appreciate the awesomeness of hackers and crackers out there. You guys rule. But it’d be best if you try not to hack Kryptos. You probably might even be able to do it, but that wouldn’t be fair to the other participants. Let’s all play for the spirit of the game folks.
9. There might be clues ANYWHERE. The gamemaster may have left out some trails uncovered, by mistake (though he’ll never admit to it, the darn egotist that he is…). So leave no stones unturned.
10. Hints for each level can be found in Page Title, URL, Pictures on the level, page source and in your heads.
11. Remember that Wiki and Google search rule all.
12. The prizes are in first-come-first-win basis.
13. Jokes aside, misbehavior of any kind will lead to automatic disQ.

Total cash prize of Rs. 2000!!

The winner and 3 team mates get a direct entry into the second round of the Excel X Treasure hunt!!
